About the Director

Joshua Gordon, Director of Competition Not Conflict

A conflict resolution professional for more than eighteen years, Mr. Gordon is an experienced mediator, facilitator, educator, and organizational capability builder. Mr. Gordon started as a dispute resolution professional through work as a campus mediator in the early 1990s with the University of Massachusetts Amherst Ombuds office dealing with all university related disputes. Mr. Gordon has been the Executive Director of Part of the Solution ADR Services (POTSADR) and a Senior Consultant for the Consensus Building Institute (CBI). Contexts have ranged from gang related disputes to a $500M gas pipeline negotiation. It was the richness of innovation that arises at universities that launched his career and now brings him to the CNC program at the University of Oregon School of Law.

In addition to his career in conflict resolution, Mr. Gordon is a competitive runner with recent Masters All-American performances in the mile, 3K, 5K, and 10K distances. He competes as part of the University of Oregon Running Club and the Oregon Track Club. His athletic background includes running for both Brandeis University and the University of Massachusetts Amherst, playing post-collegiate baseball throughout North America, and competing in just about every sport that doesn't include skates. He has coached Little League baseball and continues to train and coach runners. At CNC, he combines his passion for competition and conflict resolution.

Mr. Gordon has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and is a recipient of both a Master of Arts degree and a Graduate Certificate from the University of Massachusetts Boston Program on Dispute Resolution as well as a law degree from Suffolk University Law School.
